CheryExeed TXL is a front-wheel drive mid-size premium SUV and, concurrently, the first product of the so-called “premium” sub-brand of the Chinese automaker Chery.
The car, which combines an attractive design, modern technical "stuffing" and a rich list of options, is aimed primarily at city dwellers who prefer active pastime, but at the same time do not find themselves in situations where four-wheel drive might be needed ...
For the first time before the general public, the pre-production crossover in all its glory appeared in September 2017 at the stands of the International Frankfurt Motor Show, and as Chery Exeed TX (and even with a hybrid power plant and all-wheel drive transmission), focused on the markets of Europe and China ...
And only in January 2019, at a special event in the Middle Kingdom (and later in April at car shows in Shanghai), the premiere of a commodity off-road vehicle called Exeed TX / TXL took place, which became the "firstborn" of a brand spun off from Chery, from which the nameplates were simply removed the parent company ... However, the car reached Russia under another newly minted sub-brand - CheryExeed.
The appearance of CheryExeed TXL is tailored with almost no Asian flavor - the crossover looks attractive, harmonious and moderately aggressive, and its appearance has enough spectacular details that attract attention.
The front of the five-door is distinguished by an energetic and expressive look with a predatory squint of headlights and a huge radiator grille, reminiscent of an hourglass, and from the rear it boasts lean outlines with catchy lanterns, a raised trunk lid and a pair of trapezoidal exhaust pipes.
From the side, the crossover flaunts proportional, dynamic and even quite noble outlines, emphasized by a long hood, a sloping roof with a sill line rising towards it, embossed plastic sidewalls and "swollen" wheel arches of a rounded-square shape.
In terms of its dimensions, CheryExeed TXL is a representative of the mid-size class: it is 4775 mm long, 1885 mm wide, and does not exceed 1706 mm in height. The distance between the wheelsets of the front and rear axles is 2800 mm at the five-door, and its ground clearance is 210 mm.
Interior
Inside CheryExeed TXL fully corresponds to modern fashion trends - the interior looks beautiful, laconic and quite expensive, while there is a bit of sportiness in it.
Fully digital instrument cluster based on a 10.25-inch widescreen display, embossed multi-steering wheel with a "cut" in the lower part of the rim, a stylish center console with a protruding 10.1-inch touchscreen media center, intricate ventilation deflectors and three "washers" of the climate system, which are inscribed little screens - there is simply nothing to complain about in the interior of the crossover.
In addition to this, the car boasts competent ergonomics, solid finishing materials and good overall quality of workmanship.
"Apartments" CheryExeed TXL have a five-seat layout, and none of the riders will feel constrained. In the front seats, there are well-profiled seats with a well-defined side profile, filling with optimal density, wide adjustment intervals and heating.
On the second row there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest in the center, an almost flat floor and the presence of such amenities as its own ventilation deflectors, connectors for recharging gadgets and all kinds of niches for small luggage.
With practicality, the mid-size crossover is in complete order - its trunk not only has an ideal shape with smooth walls, but also can accommodate 461 liters ("under the curtain") of luggage in standard condition. "Gallery" folds in two unequal sections into an almost flat area, increasing the useful volume of the compartment to an impressive 1000 liters.
In the underground niche there is an additional compartment for small things, and even lower are the spare wheel and the necessary tools.
Specifications
Under the hood of the CheryExeed TXL is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder TGDI gasoline engine with an in-line layout, an aluminum block and a cylinder head, a turbocharger, a direct fuel injection system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and two phase shifters, which generates 186 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 275 Nm of torque at 2000-4000 rpm.
By default, the turbo engine is combined with a Getrag 7-band robotic gearbox with two clutches and an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch, which connects the rear axle wheels if necessary.
Speed, dynamics and consumption
The mid-size SUV accelerates from zero to the first "hundred" in 9.8 seconds, and its top speed is 185 km / h.
In the combined cycle, the five-door has enough 7.8 liters of fuel for every 100 km of run, and it can easily "digest" gasoline with an octane rating of AI-92 (and higher).
Design features
The base for CheryExeed TXL is a modular front-wheel drive "bogie" M3X with a transversely mounted engine and a monocoque body, the power structure of which largely consists of high-strength steel grades. On both axles of the car, independent suspensions with passive shock absorbers, springs and anti-roll bars are used: in the front - a MacPherson-type design, in the back - a multi-link system.
The crossover is equipped with rack and pinion steering, complemented by an active electric amplifier. All wheels of the five-door are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated in the front), working with ABS, EBD and BAS.
Options and prices
In the Russian market, CheryExeed TXL is offered in two trim levels to choose from - Luxury and Flagship (sales in Russia started in October 2020).
- The initial version of the crossover is offered for ≈2.25 million rubles and this includes: six airbags, 18-inch alloy wheels, ABS, EBD, ESP, mirrors with electric drive, heating and electric folding, ERA-GLONASS system, virtual instrument cluster, media center with 10.1 -inch screen, rear view camera, audio system with six speakers, dual-zone climate control, leather-trimmed seats, electric boot lid, cruise control, keyless entry and engine start, heated front seats and other options.
- The car in the "top" version costs ≈2.4 million rubles and can additionally boast: a panoramic roof, 19-inch wheels, fully LED optics, all-round cameras, blind spot monitoring, an automatic parking system, atmospheric multicolor interior lighting, "music" with eight columns and some other "gadgets".
