The first-generation five-door Chevrolet Onix subcompact hatchback, created specifically for the Latin American market and originally conceived as a "budget car, which is not alien to modern trends", was born in October 2012 - its world debut took place at the Sao Paulo Motor Show.

In July 2016, the car underwent a restyling, as a result of which it received minor adjustments to the exterior and interior, acquired an "off-road" version called Activ and "armed" with new options, after which it was produced in this form until November 2019 - it was then that it appeared on sale second generation model.

The "first" Chevrolet Onix is a budget five-door B-class hatchback according to European standards, which has the following body dimensions: length - 3933-3958 mm, of which the gap between the wheelsets of the front and rear axles extends by 2528 mm, width - 1705- 1737 mm, height - 1474-1497 mm.

When equipped, the car weighs from 1008 to 1092 kg, and its gross weight varies from 2222 to 2407 kg, depending on the modification.

The power range of the first generation Chevrolet Onix consists of two four-cylinder gasoline "aspirated" SPE / 4 series with distributed fuel injection:

  • The first option is a 1.0-liter unit that generates 77 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 5200 rpm (on ethanol - 79 hp and 96 Nm).
  • The second is a 1.4-liter engine that produces 97 hp. at 6000 rpm and 127 Nm of peak thrust at 4800 rpm (on an alcohol mixture - 106 HP and 136 Nm).

The "junior" motor mates exclusively with the 5-speed "mechanics" and the drive wheels of the front axle, while the "senior" works in conjunction with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox or 6-band hydromechanical "automatic".

The first "release" of the Chevrolet Onix is based on a front-wheel drive GM Gamma II bogie with a transversely oriented powertrain.

In the front of the car, an independent suspension with McPherson struts is used, and in the rear, a semi-independent system with a torsion beam. By default, the hatchback is equipped with a hydraulic power steering. At the front, the car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes, and at the rear - with simpler drum devices (of course, with ABS).

In Latin America, it is one of the bestsellers of sales, however, the car has never been imported to Russia, and neither by "gray" dealers, nor by private owners, which is why it is impossible to find it on the secondary market. And in general, this five-door hatch is practically unknown to Russian motorists.
