In August 2013, at a car show in Mumbai, Nissan held a public presentation of the "third Terrano" - a budget compact crossover, which is a redesigned and slightly more prestigious version of the French Renault Duster SUV. Initially, the car was developed specifically for the Indian market, but in April 2014 it reached Russia.

In the spring of 2016, the Japanese got around to updating their most affordable off-road vehicle - they did not touch the exterior of the five-door, but they noticeably changed the interior, slightly “pumped” the engines, added a new modification to the range and simultaneously increased the price tag.

Outwardly, the "Japanese" is much prettier than his French "brother". If the Duster looks like a typical budget car interspersed with individual "non-budget" elements, then the exterior of the Nissan Terrano is noticeably richer, brighter and more attractive. It really looks like a car of a higher class, which may well attract the attention of a separate part of Russian motorists, for whom design is an important detail.

The exterior of the "third Terrano" received a sufficient amount of aggression, expressed through the predatory gaze of the front optics, a massive radiator grille and sharp contours of the bumper, cutting the oncoming air flows. The stern of the new Terrano looks much more attractive than that of the Duster: a different bumper, a refined tailgate and stylish lights give the new image a complete look of a modern crossover that can harmoniously fit into the Nissan lineup on equal terms with other models.

The Nissan Terrano is 4342 mm long, its height is 1668 mm, and its width fits into 1822 mm. The wheelbase of the car is 2674 mm, and the ground clearance indicator depends on the version: in the front-wheel drive version it is 205 mm, and in the all-wheel drive version - 210 mm. In the "stowed" form, the SUV weight varies from 1248 to 1434 kg.

Salon "Terrano" (in the photo above: on the left "pre-styling 2014-2015", on the right "updated in 2016", below "updated in 2017") inexpensive and well-known all from the same "Duster" - the steering wheel is "chubby" and enough a large, driver's "toolbox" with three shallow "wells" is informative and visual, and the sheer center console with an audio system unit (in "top-end" configurations with a 7 "touchscreen multimedia display) and three" washers "of the climate system is attractive in appearance, but not devoid of ergonomic miscalculations. Finishing materials in the crossover are budgetary everywhere, although the glossy insert on the dashboard and the silver "decor" under the metal add a bit of nobility to the interior.

The five-seater decoration of the “third” Nissan Terrano is quite spacious, but the seats themselves are simple and flat, and on the first row there is practically no lateral support (while the adjustment ranges are not satisfactory).

The luggage compartment of the SUV is comfortable and roomy: its standard volume is 408 liters for the all-wheel drive version and 475 liters for the front-wheel drive version. The rear row of seats folds in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the usable capacity to 1570 and 1646 liters, respectively. A full-size spare wheel and a set of tools are hidden in the underground niche of the "hold".

Specifications. The range of engines available for Nissan Terrano in the Russian market combines two gasoline engines that meet the European Euro-4 standard and are also used in the Duster.

  • By default, the crossover is equipped with a four-cylinder 1.6-liter unit with in-line "pots", distributed power technology and 16-valve DOHC timing, developing 114 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 156 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
It mates with the "mechanics" for five or six gears (in the first case with front-wheel drive, and in the second - with full) and allows the car to accelerate to the first "hundred" in 10.9-12.5 seconds and gain 166-167 km / h "maximum speed ". In the combined travel mode, fuel consumption ranges from 7.4 to 7.6 liters, depending on the modification.
  • A more productive option is a 2.0-liter in-line "four" (1998 cubic centimeters), equipped with a distributed fuel supply and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, in the arsenal of which there are 143 "horses" of power at 5750 rpm and 195 Nm of peak thrust at 4000 rpm. Unlike the "younger brother", the engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or 4-band automatic transmission, as well as an exclusively all-wheel drive transmission. The sprint up to 100 km / h for the crossover takes 10.7-11.5 seconds, its speed threshold is 174-180 km / h, and the "appetite" in mixed conditions does not exceed 7.8-8.7 liters for each "hundred".

The platform for the third "release" Nissan Terrano uses the Renault Duster chassis with a transversely oriented power plant. At the front, the monocoque body rests on a standard independent structure with McPherson struts and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, front-wheel drive vehicles use a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam, and all-wheel drive vehicles use a multi-link complex with coil springs.
The steering system on the off-road vehicle is of a rack and pinion type with a hydraulic booster, and a brake package with ventilated discs on the front and "drums" on the rear axle. The all-wheel drive technology (All Mode 4 × 4) on the "Japanese" is based on a typical for "state employees" scheme with an electromagnetic multi-plate clutch that activates the rear axle when the front wheels slip.
