At the stands of the International Auto Show in Detroit, which opened its doors to visitors in early January 2012, the new mid-size premium sedan Cadillac ATS appeared in all its glory before the world community, challenging the eminent “Germans” of the D-segment. The car was a success not only outside and inside, but also technically - of course, because the benchmark for its creation was the "troika" from BMW itself.

In the summer of 2015, the tricycle debuted in an updated look - it was refreshed in appearance, slightly modernized the power "stuffing" and expanded the list of equipment.

The exterior of the Cadillac ATS is definitely catchy - thanks to its avant-garde and American-style impudent appearance, the car is unlike any of the competitors. The sedan looks beautiful, fit and powerful from all sides, and every detail in its exterior is perceived as appropriate. The front of the four-door flaunts spectacular lighting technology with strips of LEDs continuing in the air intakes of the bumper, and an impressive "shield" of the radiator grille, and at the rear hints at its sporty essence with narrow vertical lanterns and a "swollen" bumper with a pair of "trunks" of the exhaust system. Despite the "family" angularity, the profile of the car is strict and at the same time deliberately dynamic.

In length, "Ayti-es" extends to 4643 mm, it has a wheelbase of 2775 mm, and the height and width are 1421 mm and 1806 mm, respectively. Depending on the modification, a premium-class triple-box in a "combat" condition weighs from 1530 to 1607 kg.

The interior of the Cadillac ATS is interesting from a design point of view and perfectly assembled. The front panel looks expensive and at the same time slightly "cosmic" due to the 8-inch touchscreen of the entertainment and information complex and extraordinarily designed "climate" blocks and an audio system with touch control. Harmoniously fit into the interior design and quite civil, but comfortable multifunctional steering wheel, and a visual instrument cluster, completely devoid of sports claims. The trim materials in the sedan's cabin are as for selection - artificial or natural leather, aluminum or carbon and real wood.

The front seats of the "American" are good-looking, well-profiled and endowed with a multitude of adjustments, including lateral support and cushion length. There is enough free space on the second row of seats for comfortable accommodation of adult passengers, and the sofa itself does not cause any complaints with its proportions.

The luggage compartment of the Cadillac ATS is very modest by the standards of the D-class - in the "stowed" form, it has only 295 liters. But the "hold" pumped up not only with its volume, but also with an intricate shape with massive protrusions on the sides. There is a compartment for small items in the underground niche of the car, and a battery is hidden under the cover on the left.

Specifications. In the Russian market, the Cadillac ATS is offered with two gasoline four-cylinder engines with a volume of 2.0 liters each (1998 cubic centimeters), equipped with direct fuel injection, 16-valve timing, forged crankshaft, variable valve timing technology at the outlet and inlet and a Twinscroll turbine. Both units are mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the "junior" version is exclusively rear-wheel drive, and the "senior" - only full.

  • On basic versions, the engine generates a maximum of 226 horsepower at 5300 rpm and 350 Nm of torque, available in the range from 2000 to 4000 rpm. Such a car is capable of accelerating to the first "hundred" after 5.9 seconds, its maximum capabilities are 240 km / h, and the "destruction" of fuel in mixed conditions is 8.2 liters for every 100 kilometers.
  • On the "top" solutions, the output of the power plant reaches 276 "horses" at 5500 rpm and 353 Nm of maximum traction supplied to the wheels at 1700-5500 rpm. It takes 6.1 seconds to spurt from the start to 100 km / h for such a premium sedan, its high-speed ceiling does not exceed 220 km / h, and gasoline consumption in the city / highway driving mode is 8.4 liters per 100 km / h.

All-wheel drive in the Cadillac ATS is implemented using a fifth-incarnation Haldex multi-plate clutch with electronic control, located in front of the rear axle differential. Under normal driving conditions, the car is almost front-wheel drive - no more than 10% of the traction is supplied to the rear axle. However, in the event of a slip of the front end, up to 100% of the engine potential can be redirected.

The Cadillac ATS sedan is built on the rear-wheel drive bogie GM Alpha with extensive use in the construction of aluminum, magnesium alloys and high-strength and multiphase steels. The car has an almost ideal weight distribution along the axles - 51:49. In the front part of the "American" an independent suspension with MacPherson struts is used, and in the back there is a multi-link architecture (five levers on both sides).
Optionally, the four-door is equipped with an adaptive Magnetic Ride Control chassis, electronically controlled shock absorbers and a choice between comfortable and sporty settings.
By default, the ATS is content with ventilated brake discs on all wheels with ABS, EBD, BAS and other electronic goodies, and the front axle uses Brembo brakes with 320mm pancakes. Regardless of the modification, the car is equipped with a ZF rack and pinion steering complex with an electromechanical amplifier and a variable gear ratio.

Options and prices. On the Russian market in 2016, the Cadillac ATS can be purchased in three levels of equipment - Standard, Luxury and Performance.
For the basic configuration, dealers ask for a minimum of 2,165,000 rubles, and its features are eight airbags, a two-zone "climate", leather interior, ABS, ESP, cruise control, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, 17-inch wheel disks, a standard audio system, engine start and keyless entry and much more.
The “top-end” option will cost from 2,505,000 rubles, and for an all-wheel drive car you will need to add another 110,000 rubles. It implies the presence (in addition to the above options) of ten airbags, a rear view camera, a rain sensor, bi-xenon headlights, a multimedia complex, premium "music", lane control technologies, collision avoidance and adaptive lighting, and a bunch of other equipment.
