The Jaguar E-Pace is a premium front- or all-wheel drive compact SUV that (according to the British automaker) “combines the makings of a sports car with the functionality and practicality of a crossover in everyday use” ... Its target audience is people who lead an active lifestyle and need a good sports car (at the same time, according to estimates of marketers, for 80% of buyers it will be the "first Jaguar") ...

The world premiere of the off-road vehicle took place on July 13, 2017 at a special show in London - it became the smallest model in the company's current palette, tried on a truly attractive design (especially against the background of many competitors), and also received powerful motors and a "main" front-wheel drive.

Outside, the Jaguar E-Pace "flaunts" an attractive, modern, graceful and energetic appearance - with its outlines the crossover instantly attracts the eye.

The front view of the five-door shows a predatory look, accentuated by beautiful LED headlights, an expressive grille with a fine-mesh pattern and a powerful bumper with large cutouts for the air intakes.

The sportiness of the SUV is given by a light and dynamic silhouette with the sloping roof contours, the sill line “flying up” to the rear, the impressive strokes of the wheel arches and “muscular” hips.

The lean stern completes the car's image perfectly, flaunting the narrow LED lights and the embossed bumper with two exhaust “trunks”.

In terms of its dimensions, the Jaguar E-Pace fits into the parameters of the compact segment: it is 4395 mm long, 1649 mm high, and 1984 mm wide. The wheelbase of the crossover extends to 2681 mm, and its ground clearance does not exceed 204 mm.

The curb weight of the five-door varies from 1775 to 1843 kg, depending on the modification.

In general, the interior of the Jaguar E-Pace is "drawn" in the same style with other modern models of the brand, however, it has an original architecture with clearly defined driver and passenger areas, which makes it look beautiful, stylish and modern.

A completely virtual "toolbox", a sporty knocked down three-spoke multi-steering wheel, an elegant center console with a color display of the multimedia complex and three rotating air conditioning knobs - inside the SUV there is something to catch the eye, but at the same time its decoration is devoid of show-off.

The five-door interior contains all the elements of luxury - high-quality leather, pliable plastics, aluminum and natural wood.

By the standards of its class, the crossover cannot boast of an excess of internal space - in front, it will be frankly cramped for people more than 180 cm tall, and in the second row, these sensations are aggravated even more. But the five-door front seats "flaunt" an ergonomic profile with pronounced side bolsters and a wide range of adjustments, and the rear sofa has hospitable proportions.

The luggage compartment of the Jaguar E-Pace is by no means nominal - its volume in the "stowed" form is 577 liters. True, in this case, only a tire repair tool is laid underground, while with a small spare tire, the capacity is reduced to 484 liters. By default, the "gallery" is compared to the floor by a pair of unequal parts, which brings the cargo space to 1234 liters.

On the Russian market for the British SUV, a wide range of four-cylinder aluminum engines of the Ingenium family has been announced, which are combined exclusively with a 9-band "automatic" ZF and an all-wheel drive transmission:

  • Gasoline versions are "armed" with a 2.0-liter "four" with direct fuel injection, turbocharging, 16-valve timing design and phase shifters at the intake and exhaust, which is available in two power options:
    • 249 horsepower 5500 rpm and 365 N • m of torque capacity at 1200-4500 rpm;
    • 300 h.p. at 5500 rpm and 400 N • m maximum recoil at 1200-4500 rpm.

    From one place to the “first hundred”, the gasoline crossover accelerates after 6.4 ~ 7 seconds, reaches a maximum of 230 ~ 243 km / h, and in mixed mode “digests” no more than 7.7 ~ 8 liters of fuel for every 100 km of run.

  • Under the hood of diesel modifications there is a 2.0-liter engine with direct "power supply", electromagnetic Bosch injectors, a turbocharger with variable geometry and phase shifters on the exhaust shaft, offered in three levels of "pumping":
    • 150 horsepower at 3500 rpm and 380 N • m of available thrust at 1750 rpm;
    • 180 h.p. at 4000 rpm and 430 N • m of torque at 1750 rpm;
    • 240 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 500 Nm of generating capacity at 1500 rpm.

    It takes 7.4 ~ 10.5 seconds to conquer the "first hundred" of a diesel car, its maximum capabilities "rest" at 193 ~ 224 km / h, and fuel consumption does not exceed 5.6 ~ 6.2 liters in a combined cycle.

Jaguar E-Pace with 150, 180 and 249 hp engines. an all-wheel drive with a conventional multi-plate clutch is installed, which transfers traction to the rear axle if necessary, and with 240 and 300 horsepower units - the Active Driveline system with two individual clutches on each rear wheel.

At the heart of the Jaguar E-Pace is a "front-wheel drive" platform with a transversely located power plant. The body of the car is made of high-strength steel grades, the bonnet, roof panel, front fenders and trunk lid are cast from aluminum, and the cross member under the windshield is made of magnesium alloy.

"In a circle" the crossover has independent suspensions: at the front - MacPherson strut with aluminum steering knuckles, at the rear - an Integral Link multi-link. As an option, it is equipped with adaptive shock absorbers with two functioning algorithms - Normal and Dynamic.

The five-door boasts a rack and pinion steering complex with an electric power steering and brake discs on all wheels (ventilated on the front axle, with a diameter of 325 to 349 mm, and in the rear - solid, 300 mm) with ABS, EBD and other modern electronics.

In the Russian market, the Jaguar E-Pace in 2018 is offered in five equipment options - "Base", "S", "SE", "HSE" (the last three are possible with the "R-Dynamic" package) and "First Edition".

The minimum price for an SUV with a 150-horsepower engine is 2,544,000 rubles, and a petrol 249-horsepower modification will cost from 2,627,000 rubles. In the "base" the car has: front and side airbags, 17-inch wheel disks, LED headlights, heated and electric side mirrors, a multimedia system with a 10-inch screen, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, "cruise", dual-zone "Climate", technology of keeping the lane, parking sensors "in a circle", ABS, ESP, EBD, EBA and a bunch of other equipment.

For the "240-horsepower diesel" you will have to pay from 3,454,000 rubles, and the "300-horsepower petrol version" cannot be bought for less than 3,438,000 rubles.
